After care of an extracted socket varies depending on factors like location of tooth and type of extraction. It is vital as as it helps promote clotting and protect the extraction site during the healing process.

There are a few things you can try to accelerate healing :

Leave the gauze piece in place atleast for half an hour as they can prevent dislodgement of clot.
Take pain killers as prescribed
Placing an ice pack or a towel-wrapped bag of ice over the area of extraction for 10–20 minutes at a time may help dull pain.

Do not forcefully rinse, spit or use straw for 24 hours after the procedure to prevent dislodgement of clot.
Take 24 hour rest following the procedure.
Taking a warm saline rinse after 24 hours of procedure may prevent risk of infections. This can be continued for a week atleast 3 times a day.
Avoid smoking and use of paan during healing period.
When sleeping, prop your head up with pillows, as lying flat can prolong healing.
Continue brushing and flossing your teeth to prevent infection, though avoid the extraction site.
